by Ember heartChapter 7
“Grandfather, I really feel uneasy. Please go to the hospital. Right now. If I keep feeling uneasy, my health will become uncomfortable too.”
When it came to his only grandson, Dong-in’s grandfather had something like health anxiety, so those words were more convincing than anything else. After ending the call, his grandfather walked into the hospital and came out in a wheelchair. Fortunately, he had suffered his first heart attack in the hospital lobby, so he was rescued in time.
Then, as soon as he became an adult, Dong-in began to wonder if his premonitions could also extend to investments. His curiosity turned into interest, and in the end, drawn in by that mysterious ability, he took his first step into futures trading. As a result, well, needless to say, he hit the jackpot.
That was the beginning of .
That did not mean he recklessly invested based only on premonitions. Naturally, he first determined the value of the investment target and carefully analyzed various related factors. Along with the data he obtained that way, he thoroughly examined the local conditions, political situations, and trends of more than 190 countries every single day. Furthermore, he added all kinds of investment information, including daily changes in weather around the world.
Reviewing even the smallest details like that was the foundation of Dong-in’s investments. Among all of it, his premonition was the final touch that completed his investment.
Something was wrong!
That premonition kept reminding him of it today as well.
“No. I’ll meet her.”
He felt that something suspicious was going to happen.
—Pardon?
“We can’t rule out the possibility that it’s a forgery either, so I’ll meet her and talk. When are you available?”
—……
His prospective fiancée hesitated, as if she was reluctant to answer, or perhaps extremely displeased by his mention of the possibility of forgery.
“……”
From Dong-in’s perspective, that only made everything feel even more suspicious and uncomfortable.
—Anytime.
Her voice…
“Then I’ll send you the meeting place by message.”
Something was definitely wrong, but what on earth was it?
He skipped the greetings and ended the call. Because of that strange premonition, he continued to tilt his head in confusion for quite some time afterward.
Anyway, it would be better to call off this marriage.
He had never once disobeyed his grandfather’s words. Naturally, he had no intention of doing so this time either.
However, if his grandfather was the one who called off the marriage instead of me, then that would be a different story, wouldn’t it?
It would be very easy for Dong-in to get his grandfather to break off the marriage.
All he had to do was ask him to look into Im Arang.
His grandfather had stepped back from the front line of business. He was currently enjoying a peaceful retirement in the mountains on the outskirts of Gyeonggi Province for the sake of his health. Even so, if he put his mind to it, his grandfather was still in a position to exert enormous influence anywhere and anytime in this small country.
Does this man always have to be so blunt?
Ji-i clicked her tongue inwardly and lowered the arm holding her phone.
He just hung up without saying whether he was calling it off or even saying goodbye. Tsk.
After shivering for a moment, she gripped her phone and entered the club. The inside of the club was packed with an enormous crowd and heat. The frantic psychedelic lights were enough to hurt her eyes, while the electronic music sounded as if it were about to burst her eardrums.
“You’ve got a pretty decent face.”
Thump, thump, thump.
Moving his body to the flashy lights and music, some loser approached Ji-i. She instinctively hesitated for a moment, but soon relaxed her guard. Even if he was a man, as long as he was drunk, it was not a problem she could not deal with.
“Are you alone?”
“……”
Ji-i silently passed the loser and headed toward her destination. It would have been nice if things had ended that simply, with each of them going their own way.
“This fucking bitch is playing hard to get.”
Judging by the emphasis he put on his curses, and how naturally the words rolled off his tongue like they were covered in super glue, he definitely was not a Seoul native who was awkward at swearing.
Moreover, perhaps completely consumed by alcohol, the man reached out toward Ji-i’s shoulder as she passed him.
There were lessons that increased one’s chances of survival in a violent situation.
First, do not make the first move.
Second, if the other person attacks first, any punch thrown afterward is automatically self-defense.
Third, when defending against an attack, never hold back.
Fourth, punish them thoroughly. Doing it halfway is worse than doing nothing.
Fifth, find an appropriate opening and leave the scene immediately.
“……”
Following those principles, Ji-i suddenly pushed herself backward, pressing herself close to him. The man’s hand, which had been reaching for her shoulder, passed by her face.
Just as she had learned through actual experience, she raised her hand and wrapped it around his arm, pressing it downward. Then, with the elbow of that same arm, she struck him in the chest with a split-second delay.
Oh, this technique works whether you’re inside prison or outside.
As expected, the man collapsed right there.
Fortunately, the power of the subwoofer swallowed his scream, while the psychedelic lights interfered with the other people’s vision.
Before the people around them could understand what had happened and the atmosphere could turn ugly, Ji-i quickly left the scene and headed toward the room.
#3.
As Ji-i opened the door, the sound and psychedelic lights that had been shaking the entire space entered the room first.
Because of that, the six pairs of eyes inside the room turned toward Ji-i.
When she closed the door behind her, most of the subwoofer’s ear-splitting sound was blocked out.
“Did you call him?”
At Arang’s words, a message notification sounded from Arang’s phone, which Ji-i was holding.
“……”
“What did he say?”
Arang, who had a man on each side of her, asked loudly.
Ji-i and Arang were clearly identical twins, but at the moment, because of the lighting, makeup, and obviously different clothes, no one could tell.
“……”
Besides, Ji-i was wearing a cap.
“Who was it?”
Perhaps because of that, one of the men sitting beside Arang asked.
“Move over a little.”
Maybe she did not like the man showing interest in Ji-i. Arang pushed him away and glared at Ji-i for no reason.
“Noona, are you angry?”
Ugh, that cutesy act!
“……”
“Don’t be angry, Noona…”
“……”
That nasal voice was seriously annoying!
“Move. And you, come here.”
Arang tapped the spot beside her with her hand.
Suppressing her urge to gag, Ji-i obediently walked over and plopped down beside her.
“Noona, you two…”
Only then did everyone notice that the two women looked exactly alike, and they seemed somewhat surprised.
“Mind your own business.”
Arang usually disliked the fact that Ji-i was her identical twin unless Ji-i had some value that could be used for her own benefit, so she reacted hysterically.
“Okay. I get it, so don’t be angry, Noona.”
Perhaps because of the way Arang addressed her as “Noona,” the men who had been sitting beside Arang suddenly looked noticeably younger to Ji-i.
Holy crap! They had to be adults, right?
Ji-i’s brow twitched slightly.
“Pour me a drink.”
They were adults, so they must have been allowed to enter clubs or go to work here.
Ji-i desperately tried to think that way.
During her eight years of survival, she had become almost half-delinquent herself, but that did not mean she intended to justify actual lawbreaking.
And she was not some overly meddlesome person with a conscience as wide as the Pacific Ocean who was in a position to reform teenagers, either.
So she had not the slightest intention of interfering by imposing her own moral standards.
She only hoped that the men sitting in Arang’s arms at this entertainment establishment were, please, adults.
